Trends for 2018-2019

Technology is always changing and advancing. As educators, we must keep with with ever changing playing field of technology in the classroom. There are several fluid trends that are changing the way educators teach and students learn.

Gamification- Is digital competition. By providing “game-like” principals, to appeal to learners in a meaningful way. Students respond to  gamification which can provide the learner with a better understanding of their knowledge. Students learn their own limitations and ways to improve their retention.

Device Mesh- the mix of devices you are using on your network. In a school setting this allows for a seamless access my interconnecting students accessible. This is always changing environment

Personal Learning- Students can choose what they want to learn and how they learn it. Using technology to learn can benefit the learner by allowing them to choose the platform to address their learning style and learning platform. This is especially useful for students who want to graduate early or need to take a remedial class in a high school setting. Teachers like personal learning opportunities because it can further a student’s learning and inspire them to find new interests.

Computational Thinking- Coding is a great way for students to learn in a different way across all subject areas. Coding is becoming more and more popular even on the most elementary levels. Students must think computational and creatively as they are learning.

Augmented and Virtual Reality- This technology uses virtualization to allow students the ability to fully immerse themselves in a digital platform.  For example, they may be able to tour the Louvre Museum without having to be in Paris, France to do so. Likewise, they may be able to take a tour of the international space station.  Technology allows for physical locations to be kept in a digital format and virtualization meshes the digital world with VR headsets.
